Welcome to the memorial page for

Agnes Mae Turner

September 21, 1931 ~ November 18, 2017 (age 86)

Heaven received into its fold another angel on Saturday, November 18, 2017, when Agnes Mae Turner, 86, passed away at Clearview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Sikeston, Missouri.

Agnes Mae was born on September 21, 1931, in Posey County Indiana to the late John and Agnes (Emory) Greenwell.  She graduated Mt. Vernon Senior High School and on May 10, 1953, married the love of her life, Rev. Paul E. Turner.  She raised three children and worked for many years at the Mt. Vernon Senior High School cafeteria where she was a cashier.  Agnes Mae also ministered alongside her husband, Paul, at the Church of God Mission where he was pastor.  She taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, was active in the women’s ministries (Dorcas Prayer Circle), and helped entertain visiting ministers and missionaries.  Agnes Mae was an exceptional cook, gardener (she loved tending her roses), and an avid reader.  She was a caregiver to not only her brothers and sisters when her mother died when she was young; but, also to children she fostered, her father John Greenwell, her Aunt Pauline Clark (whom she loved dearly), and her loving husband Paul, until his death in November 2002.  Agnes Mae was kind and giving to others and in turn God blessed her in many ways.  She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Agnes Mae is survived by two sons: Paul David Turner (Rebecca) of Mt. Vernon, IN, Jonathan Turner (Jonell) of Sikeston, MO; one daughter, Esther Thompson-Long (Sewell) of Louisville, KY; five grandchildren, Christopher Turner (Tara)of Evansville, IN, Julia (Turner) Mathis (Jeremy) of Hopkinsville, KY, Abigail (Thompson) Schaber (Jared) of Newport, KY, Carla (Turner) McLemore (Justin) of Sikeston, MO, Nathan Turner (Courtney) of Chaffee, MO, and one step-grandchild, Sean Rodgers of Sikeston, MO; six great-grandchildren, Isaac and Ashley Turner of Evansville, IN, Gavin McLemore of Sikeston, MO, Norah Mathis of Hopkinsville, KY, and Griffin and Josephine Schaber of Newport, KY;  two brothers: Danny Greenwell of Imperial, Mo and Carl Greenwell of Festus, MO; one sister, Ruby Grenco of Herrin, IL.  In addition to her parents and husband, Agnes Mae was preceded in death by three brothers: James Greenwell, John Greenwell, and Paul Greenwell; one sister, Jean Knott; and one great-grandchild, Emerson Mathis.

A celebration of Agnes Mae’s life will be held from 11 AM – 1 PM CST on Saturday, December 9, at Stendeback Family Funeral Home at 1330 E. 4th St., Mt. Vernon, IN, with a memorial service beginning at 12:30 PM.  The Rev. Bryce Palmer of Evansville, IN will officiate.  A private burial will follow at Black’s Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, Agnes Mae would appreciate donations be made to Alexandrian Public Library, 115 W 5th St, Mt. Vernon, IN 47620.  This donation memorializes her love of books and reading.
