Lois South

May 1, 1931 — July 30, 2020

Lois E. South 89 of Enfield, passed away Thursday morning July 30, 2020 at Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado. She was born May 1, 1931 in Delafield, IL the daughter of Elbert and Ione (Epperson) Askew. She married William R. South on December 31, 1949 at the Delafield Baptist Church and he preceded her in death on August 18, 2017.

Lois worked as a seamstress at Elders Manufacturing and Kerns Manufacturing. She later worked for many years at Steins Florist. She enjoyed quilting and made several quilts for her grandchildren. She also loved her flower gardening. She had been a member of the Red Hat Ladies. She was a member of the Enfield Missionary Baptist Church where she belonged to the Women’s Missionary Union and served as the song leader.

She is survived by her children, William (Debra) South of Carmi and Sharon (Steve) Mitsdarffer of Enfield; grandchildren, Angie (Chad) Mathis, Craig (Lisa) Mitsdarffer, Chad (Robbilyn Coy) Mitsdarffer, Sara (Quinton) Runyon, Mary Ann (Mitch) Gross; great-grandchildren, Abigail and Ben Mathis, Isaac and Olivia Mitsdarffer, Will and Whitney Runyon and Mason and Maggie Gross; brother, Ronald Carr. She was preceded in death by her parents, her stepfather, Floyd Carr; brothers, Paul, Durward, and Joe Askew and Lindell Carr, and her sister, Patricia Smith.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday August 2, 2020 at the Stendeback Family Funeral Home in Enfield with burial in Enfield Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of services. The family requests that masks be worn and social distancing guidelines be followed. Online condolences may be left at stendebackfamilyfuneralhome.com. Memorials are suggested to the Special Olympics and the Diabetes Association in care of the funeral home. The Stendeback Family Funeral Home in Enfield is in charge of arrangements.
