Obituary

Robert E. Pollard 93 of Carmi, passed away Tuesday, December 01, 2020 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, IN. He was born September 12, 1927 in White County, the son of Earl and Irene (Niness) Pollard. He married Maxine Cain on June 25, 1945 and she preceded him on death on November 10, 1998. He later married Loretta Duvall on June 19, 1999 and she survives.

He was a driller/tool-pusher in the oilfield for many years. Robert was a veteran of the United States Army and was also a member of the Masonic Lodge and a 32nd degree of the Scottish Rite, the Carmi V.F.W.and the American Legion Post #224.  Robert was a member of the Carmi New Beginning Church of God.

He is survived by his wife, Loretta; his daughters, Sandra (Dwight) Chapman, Carolyn (James) Guthrie and Brenda Able; 7 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; brother; Roy Pollard and sisters; Helen Sexton; Maxine Harvey, Mable Todd and Betty Hosick. He was preceded in death by the mother of his children; brothers, George Pollard, Kenneth Pollard, Bill Pollard and Clarence Pollard; and sisters, Violet Ashby and Viola Carty.

Per Robert’s request due to the pandemic, a private funeral service will be held. The family looks forward to hosting a celebration of Robert’s life at a later, safer date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, one of Robert’s favorite charities, and may be mailed to the funeral home at 200 S. Walnut Street, Carmi IL 62821. The Stendeback Family Funeral Home in Carmi is in charge of arrangements.
